This week’s meeting as it fell on Halloween week; SEAOC took up the holiday spirit for some competitive pumpkin carving. With the members choosing carving teams, each team received a pumpkin and 45 minutes to come up with a design and then carve it into their pumpkin. All the students had a great time as each team came up with creative designs ranging from more traditional designs all the way to carving faculty members’ faces into the pumpkin with great skill and likeness. John Labib joined us this week as our speaker presenting different projects that his firm has worked on recently. He discussed the business aspect of a job from beginning to end as well as the structural aspect of a job. Mr. Labib was excited to share his experiences dealing with the architects and clients and how he was able to work out design or cost issues from a structural stand point.
